Cherry Road is a blend of the different musical styles that we each hold individually. The music surfaces as a fresh and unique mixture of rock, blues, funk, pop, soul, and more. However, we tend to cut to the chase and just call our sound “Groove Rock”.

Shortly after their initial shows, the band headed to Foxhole Studios in Point Loma, CA to capture their infectious energy and unique sound. In early June of 2018, they recorded six tracks, to be released as singles over the next few months.
In the middle of a collision of sounds of post punk, new wave and shoegaze in San Diego, the year 2017 saw the birth of POLUX, a trio formed by Ever De La Rosa (guitar and voice), Tito Santana (bass) and Ahikar Quinto ( bateria) that a little more than a year after being formed begins to become one of the brightest stars in the music scene of the Californian city, just like its namesake in Gemini.
His sound breaks into the present because it refers to the songs that he played in the eighties, the direct influence of genres such as post punk, new wave and shoegaze makes them get away from the stereotype of the contemporary music scene. They are influenced by Pond, Joy Division, The Cure, Tame Impala, GUM, The Church and even some Caifanes.
But POLUX goes further: they are Hispanic musicians interacting with an American scene, composing lyrics in Spanish in a city where rock is sung in English. That bet has led them to perform at legendary venues such as The Casbah, The Merrow, The Tower Bar, The Ken Club and Mi Barra and to position themselves as the only Spanish-speaking group that has had space in one of the most important stations in the state. Since the release the debut EP “Photographs” on April 8th 2017, Mainsail has performed at over 30 shows and counting – including the 2017 Vans Warped Tour in San Diego. “Photographs” has also received airtime on San Diego radio, 91x.
Blending traditional roots of Pop-Punk with a modern sensibility, Mainsail explores a sound that bridges generations of Punk rock.
Becca began to sing before she could speak, made her first pun at six-years-old, and began writing songs at the age of seven. Her jazzy chords and thoughtful lyrics inspire connection and honesty, and what she lacks in stature she makes up for in soul and presence.
With a background in clinical music therapy, Becca considers her musical journey to be an experiment in happiness – a brave attempt at creating a feeling that everyone can share, and hope for the future.

AJ Froman is a 5-piece psychedelic, progressive, experimental rock project from San Diego consisting of driving dancy riffs and melodic breakdowns. With influences ranging from latin to progressive rock and funk, the group does a fine job taking you on a musical journey through harmonized melodies and syncopated rhythms.

Finnegan Blue is a face-melting folk band with a celtic/bluegrass/americana/reggae influence. The group is comprised of: Anna Lee Fleming (Vocals, Guitar, Trombone), William Fleming (Vocals, Mandolin, Trombone), Nico Hueso (Vocals, Fiddle, Git-fiddle), Ronnie Valles (Drum Kit and Percussion), and Oskar Beckmann (Electric and Upright Bass).
We are San Diego musicians specifically rooted in North and South Park. We play original material, with songs such as “Rye Whiskey,” that are fun, upbeat, and capture an audience. We also play covers from the Grateful Dead, The Pogues, Flogging Molly, Irish Jigs, and so much.

I started writing music a year after my wife died in 2008 (after a 21 year hiatus) using the process as therapy. My songs talk about love, life, death and living to the fullest. No regrets. Not all of my music is serious, though. Life is way too short to not have fun and laugh along the way. Music writing influences include Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Jason Mraz, Warren Zevon as well as a host of singer-songwriters from the 1970s.

Marian Mulock is a 16-year-old singer/songwriter/pianist, who has been a musician since the age of 5. For the last two years she has performed at local venues and got a shot on America’s Got Talent season 11 singing “Creep,” by Radio Head. She performs originals and covers of mostly Top 40 songs with some older classic songs mixed in.

My name is Aaron Bowman and I’m a singer-songwriter from the Auburn, Alabama area. I’ve been writing songs since I was a young kid and now at 27, I’m finally releasing my debut EP album, Distant. This album is a short collection of acoustic based songs that deal with distant memories and the passing of time.
My hope is that my music will somehow help someone navigate their own experiences and thoughts the way that my favorite songwriters have helped me.

Formed in 1996, the Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra is a robot-fronted rock band from San Diego. We play experimental, electronic pop songs inspired by the likes of Andy Kaufman, Talking Heads, Kraftwerk, They Might Be Giants, Devo, and Spinal Tap. The Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra consists of SPO-20, the robot vocalist, and his human counterpart, the mad scientist Professor B. Miller.

Based in Pacific Beach, folk rockers Chugboat is influenced by bluegrass, classic rock, and calypso music. Formed in summer 2015 by Josh Davis (Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash), Lucas Rohm, and Jesse Orlando, the band (originally called Casual Friday) was soon joined by John Zamani (Miles Ahead) and Ric Mroczek.
Their album Definitely Good Enough was released in 2015.

Roger! was founded by singer/guitarist Ernesto Garcia Jr. (Sour Mash Jack, Stunt Double), aka Ernie Garcia, who moved from west Texas to southern California in 2000. Members have included drummer Aaron Luke (Moontucky Risin, Lost Dog), Candice Campbell-Earnhart (vocals, guitar, accordion), Joel Shedroff (bass), Josh Cherichetti (guitar), and Ryan Shultzaberger (percussion).
Their debut full-length Dark Matter was released in 2012. “Our best gig,” says Garcia, “would have to be opening for local celebrity Javier Escovedo [the Zeroes, True Believers] at Til-Two.
Formed in 1958 in San Diego, CA, the founding members of The Naked I were transported to 2013 through a freak gasoline fight accident. Upon discovering the mess that was the music scene today, they set out to rectify the situation with the magic of their instruments.

Kitty plague started in april of 2011, when john & mark met stephen @ the skybox open mic night in clairemont. They decided on the name kitty plague since 7 kittens were born in marks backyard.
September 2014 brought a new lineup for kitty plague, marks long time friend jeremy copp has come aboard to play bass & is currently writing new material for the band. On the drums producer / engineer and owner of doubletime studios Jeff Forrest. They are currently rerecording the album and hope to have it released sometime early summer 2015

Formed in Encinitas California, Cambrian Shores consists of Brian Witkin and Cameron Lange, both on acoustic guitar with Brian also on lead vocals. The duo plays a unique and diverse blend of acoustic/electric rock. Brian and Cameron, both Southern California natives and lifelong friends, grew up near the ocean and surrounded by music. Their sound reflects this blend of passions and what began as a pastime at the beach between surf sessions became Cambrian Shores.
Recently, the band has begun performing some shows backed by a full band and is expected to release their debut studio album in summer 2019 on Pacific Records. Stay tuned for Cambrian Shores.

I am an aspiring singer-songwriter living in the San Diego area and currently working on my debut EP Intersections.
It’s hard for me to describe my music as being of one specific genre as it contains Indie, Pop, Rock and R&B influences, while drawing a lot of inspiration from artists such as Carole King, The Beatles, The 1975, Paramore, Amy Winehouse and Katy Perry.
Songwriting is also a huge part of my life. I love writing music about my own personal life experiences but also stories I’ve heard or even quotes, that inspire me to create my own versions of them. Love is also a familiar theme in my music as I enjoy sharing the rawness that comes with being in love or being in a relationship, and really show people the real sides of love and emotion.
I have many goals when it comes to my music, but I think the most important thing to me is being able to inspire other people through music the way that it has always inspired me.
Ex-Dickies guitarist Glen Laughlin and solo artist Deborah Gee formed this late ‘60’s British Pop-influenced band in Los Angeles. Since releasing their well-received and reviewed debut, “Transit of Venus”, they have been compared to The Stone Roses, The Pretenders and a cross between The Darkness and Abba! The band has played the dates on the East Coast and Canada as well as the Cavern Club in Liverpool. The Bluestorms’ second album, “Bad Penny Opera” is a song cycle and love letter to the band’s influences, due out later this year.

Two brothers, Marc and Matty, started out from NYC and left for sunny San Diego where they joined the U.S. Navy. Thats where they met Colton Cori. Jamming on their free time, they eventually decided to make it a full-time band. Marc and Matty called up their cousin, Matt Sorena, who quickly moved out from the east coast where he was finishing up his degree in music therapy.
Now with Cousin Matt on bass, Colton Cori on guitar, Matty on drums and Marc on guitar and vocals, Electric Mud is grinding it out with their own sound influenced heavily by the old rocknroll bands of the 60s and 70s.

Formed in 1981 in San Diego, CA, Manual Scan quickly became a mainstay of the Southern California Mod scene. They shared the stage with such acts as General Public, The Bangles, Rain Parade, No Doubt, The Plimsouls, The Romantics, The Godfathers, Squire, The Three O’Clock and The Untouchables. They toured extensively throughout California, and played gigs in Mexico and England, including a gig at the 100 Club. They scaled back in late 1990 and Kevin soon formed The Shambles, a band that Bart joined within its first few months. Manual Scan never went away, however, and continues to perform and record on an infrequent basis.

The Sleepwalkers have been playing authentic Americana roots rock since 1992. They specialize in original American music styles ranging from blues, country, Tex-Mex, Cumbia, and their own brand of roots rock.
In 1999 they released their first album Can’t Stop Rockin’ on Relampago-go records, which earned them positive national reviews, and a nomination for Best Americana album in the San Diego Music Awards. Their songs “Dead of Night” and “Vas A Ver!” was included in the movie Ofrenda Desnuda in 2007, which was directed by International Film Award Winner, Guillerma Von Son.
In 2008, the Sleepwalkers recorded a cover of Bart Mendoza’s song “Days & Maybe’s” (re-titled “No Me Cueste”), which was included on Forty One Sixty: The Songs of the Shambles.
Since their inception, they’ve played with top National artists & legends such as Link Wray, Ronnie Dawson, Sleepy Labeef, Charlie Ryan, The Texas Tornados, The Blasters, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Kid Ramos, The Beat Farmers, Freddy Fender, The Rev. Horton Heat, Big Sandy, The Supersuckers, BR5-49, The Blazers, Paladins, Johnny Legend, Rosie Flores, The Mighty Blue Kings, Graham Parker, El Vez, The Royal Crown Revue, Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, Roy Condo, Harry Dean Statton (and many
others), & have garnered 6 nominations for Best Americana/Roots band by the San Diego Music Awards.
Mostly active from 1992 to 2002, they reformed in 2013, and continue to play their original brand of Americana and roots rock. In early 2014, drummer Dick Winter was replaced by Bob Osuna. Action Andy Rasmussen left the band in 2015, after recording on the group’s sophomore album. Guest musicians include Jeremiah Silva on rhythm guitar, plus David Fleminger on several tracks.
As of 2016, the lineup included Johnny Valenzuela, Alan “Big Al” Fuentes, Ritchie Orduno, Danny Angulo, and Bob Osuna. Their next CD release Roots Rockin’ features mostly original songs written by the band. It continues their tradition of mixing original rockabilly, country, cumbia, and even some surf music. The album was nominated for Best Local Recording at the 2017 San Diego Music Awards.
In 2017, bassist Danny Angulo was replaced by Paul Denton (of the Miff Laracy Band). By the end of the year, Alan “Big Al” Fuentes had left the group, leaving the quartet of Valenzuela, Osuna, Orduno, and Denton.
Former guitarist Gene Edwards went on to play with Dwight Yoakam’s band in the 2000-teens.

Andrew, Todd, and Declan formed DAYTRIP in 2017 for no other purpose than to thoughtfully craft songs that they all could love, despite their vastly different musical backgrounds. What started as an odd meshing of Andrew and Declan’s heavy rock background with Todd’s love for folk and indie music soon became what San Diego Citybeat’s Seth Comb’s dubbed a California sound – jangly power pop with melodic vocal parts and a dynamic, bouncing rhythm section.
Their self-titled debut EP was nominated for a San Diego Music Award for best pop. The band’s follow-up EP, Come Alive, will be released in Spring 2019.

Los Hollywood is the artistic vision of a dynamic band formed by Heidy Flores (vocals / bass) Gustavo Mojica (drums) and Marcos Mondragon (guitar). The band has been working on their new record production with the famous producer and engineer Thom Russo (Michael Jackson, Audioslave, Tom Morello, Johny Cash, Juanes, Mana).
Los Hollywood debuted independently with an EP that fused Latin rhythms with a British / American pop rock that captured the attention of critics, as well as Latin Itunes that selected the EP as “Hot Pick of The Week”. The contagious rhythms accompanied by the force of Heidy Flores’ voice in the first single “No Te Aguites”, were essential to ensure the theme as “La Cancion de La Semana” in the same Latin Itunes. The song desmostro its popularity to have more than 60,000 downloads.

The Hiroshima Mockingbirds was founded in 2015 by guitarist Brian Reilly (New Kinetics) and drummer Jon Bonser (New Kinetics, Soft Lions), Trips Jurado and Matt Franco round out the group.
In 2009 lead guitarist Jimi Paulet and frontman Max Bergstrom were jamming together and trying to get a band off the ground. They immediately started putting together a killer set list and began the search for band members to fill out the rest of their lineup. Soon afterwards, Avenue Army was born. Over the next few years Avenue Army played Minneapolis-St. Paul’s most iconic venues, all the while crafting their unique, radio-friendly alt. rock sound; combining catchy vocal melodies and harmonies with hard-hitting drums, low-end bass, and gritty guitars. In 2013 they released their breakout debut album “Words With Action” to critical acclaim and followed it up with their first national tour in early 2014. Shortly afterwards, drummer Jeremy Galloway and bassist Josh Thacker joined Avenue Army. Fully armed with a ton of new material they wrote while touring and playing the Minnesota club scene, Avenue Army returns to the studio to record their follow-up album entitled “On The Level” which will be available this Fall. Aviator Stash voted best indie alternative band in 2019 San Diego Music Awards. The project started inside a single bedroom with intention to create catchy melodies and colorful vocal harmonies. The band released their second studio album in November 2018 which has a wide range of diversity and influence.
Aviator Stash gained local attention from their debut single “lazy Summer Days” from the legendary San Diego radio station 91X. The song was quickly launched into daily rotation and received the highly coveted title as the radio stations “Local Break” for the month of August.

Jack King, aka Parker Edison, came to local notice in Parker & the Numberman, a hip-hop group also featuring Jamal Smith (aka 1019, aka the Numberman), and sometimes Brandon Zamudio. Their EP Earlywas nominated for Best Hip-Hop Album at the 2011 San Diego Music Awards, and then the band (having become a duo) won Best Hip-Hop Album at the 2012 SDMAs.
In April 2016, Edison released the Parker Meridien EP, produced by Mr. Ripley. The EP was promoted with several live performances teaming him up with local jazz cats like drummer Nathan Hubbard and bassist Harley Magsino.
“Halfway through this EP,” Edison told the Reader, “I told Nate how I wanted to do a live band for my stage show and started funneling the demo versions of my songs to him before they were even mixed. He’d get them and compose and arrange these completely different renditions with sheet music for Harley, who came on his recommendation.”
“One of the things we want to do with this project is bring back clever marketing angles,” Edison said on its release. “Every Monday in February, City College radio DJ Natalie ‘Natty J’ Jacobs played one song from the EP, and we invited people to critique them via Facebook, Twitter, and email. They were digital listening sessions. Natalie is the Editor-in-Chief at the San Diego Jewish Journal and an accomplished artist. She’s doing all the artwork for the project, and we’re compiling the CD cover, digital single covers, and promo pics to make a lyric book listeners can order online.”
A Parker Meridien album called Fists like Gotti was released in November 2017, with Edison and Hubbard backed by bassist John Rieder (Secret Fun Club). It featured guests like Rebecca Jade, and was mixed and mastered by Rafter Roberts (Bunky, Rafter, Free*Stars).
“We shot a 360 degree video through Audioscope, a local production company specializing in this technology, an immersive video documenting our full set at AC Lounge a few months ago, professionally recorded,” Edison told the Reader. “The technology is quite a trip, to be able to turn the player and see different reactions and people in the room. It’s even more intense watching it with a virtual reality headset.”
Parker Meridien was nominated for Album of the Year and Artist of the Year at the 2018 San Diego Music Awards, although the initial announcement of the award ceremony where the trio was slated to perform prominently misspelled their name Parker Meridian.
A new Parker Meridien EP was released in October 2018, Twentyfist Street Sessions. “We’re usually an electric club type band,” Hubbard told the Reader, “but this new music is a combination of acoustic music and poetry where we add the cello of Sharon Taylor.”
“We had been doing a few intimate gigs in the last year, poetry readings, and scaled back the full amplified band for a quieter setup of hand drums and acoustic bass, and adding a cellist,” says Hubbard.
“We tracked the whole thing in John Rieder’s living room over two nights, everything live including myself triggering samples, with the emphasis on a group sound,” says Parker Edison. The result harkens back to the unplugged trend of the 90s, and the addition of outtakes, a live performance at a local hospital, and a new studio track.
Twentyfist Street Sessions. scored a surprise double-victory in the Hip-Hop/Rap category at the 2019 San Diego Music Awards, winning best band and best album.

This is cool, classy jazz music with a touch of pop. The kind of music you hear when you stop in at the lounge on the corner on your way home from work. You’re standing at the bar when you hear a gentle voice, as smooth as the fine cognac in your glass, coming from the back room. A dirty-blonde beehive peeks out from behind the piano. You come closer and take a look at the creature whose hands are caressing the ivories; she’s dressed in sparkling attire worthy of Christina Hendricks and crooning songs that sound directly lifted from the swinging 60’s. Suddenly, you can’t stop staring at the drop-dead gorgeous girl with her lips pressed against the microphone. Best to pick up your drink and stop the conversation for a while. If you want to really hear Normandie’s soft, smoky alto voice and witty lyrics, you’ll have to listen closely.
She’s frequently compared to vintage classics (Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Astrud Gilberto), and modern-day sirens (Becky Stark, Inara George, of Bird and the Bee). Normandie’s sound falls sweetly on the ears of fans of classic 60’s pop, lounge, bossa nova, and modern jazz chanteuses like Melody Gardot, Norah Jones, and Diana Krall. “I always had a hard time singing loud, and that used to be a big problem for me. It wasn’t until I heard singers like Dionne Warwick, Karen Carpenter, and Astrud Gilberto that I became comfortable with my own voice,” she says.
Normandie cites the perfect pop music by Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach as her primary influences, as well as songwriters like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Cole Porter, Carole King, Lieber & Stoller, and Holland/Dozier/Holland, along with many unnamed 50’s and 60’s instrumental pop records taken from the 10-cent bin at the thrift store. “I spent almost every day with my grandparents growing up,” she says. “I think the only person I’ve met who has my exact taste in music is my 86-year old grandma.”
A versatile multi-instrumentalist, Wilson has performed trumpet, keyboard, vibraphone, and marimba duties in San Diego/Los Angeles indie pop band Red Pony Clock since 2006, making appearances at the Athens Pop Fest and on other national tours. Currently, Normandie performs in San Diego every Wednesday in the lobby of the historic Lafayette Hotel on El Cajon Blvd. The hotel (along with Normandie!) was recently featured in the Travel Channel production “Hotel Showdown.” You can also catch her every Saturday night at the Caliph with San Diego lounge revival act Blue Velvet, the brainchild of pianist and singer Kevin Cavanaugh. Together with veteran musical theater performer Maggie Taylor, the three-piece Vegas-style cabaret act delivers a one-two-three punch of classic song stylings, quick witted humor, and a singalong live experience unlike any other.
Wilson’s latest project is a trio, Casino Royale, with fellow San Diego musicians David Fleminger (Manual Scan) and Bart Mendoza (Manual Scan, True Stories). Casino Royale features a selection of timeless music from masters of song craft such as Bacharach, Gershwin, Argent, Lennon-McCartney, mixing the best known tunes with deep cuts. Previn began playing the violin at 7-years-old and was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London by Virginia Majewski and Joan Rotchford-Davies. She experimented with other music genres such as rock, folk, blues and jazz, performing in bands from age thirteen.[citation needed] In high school, she joined the London Symphony Orchestra Chorus, conducted by her father at the Royal Albert and Festival Halls.
Previn recorded, performed and toured with a variety of bands and artists in diverse musical genres, playing across the globe on singles and CDs. She was also a member of the Irish rock group In Tua Nua as well as The Young Dubliners. She appeared on television in the U.S. and internationally in music TV shows, commercials, videos and MTV music videos. Tinkersmith was founded by Jeff Smith (vocals, guitar, harmonica,) Sally Tinker (vocals, mandolin, percussion), Ira Moskowitz (percussion), and Andy Robinson (dulcimer, harmonica, vocals). According to Robinson, “We do our own take on folky, rootsy songs by Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Gillian Welch, Gram Parsons, Loudon Wainright III, and others, plus a few of my own tunes.”

Static Halo is from San Diego, CA. We began as a 5 piece group in 1997. Within one year we recorded our debut album, an ambitious double CD with a wide range of songs and styles entitled “All Around The World”.
We’ve completed numerous recordings that have recently been compiled for our follow up CD tentatively titled “Postcards From Dreamtown”. We have also been appearing on compilations, most recently a Replacements tribute CD called “Left Of The Dial” on Facedown Records and the “Spellbound” compilation on Snap Records in Spain.

Singer, guitarist, and songwriter Steve Rosenbaum has been knocking around the power pop scene for many years. His formative years were spent in suburban Toledo, Ohio, where he came of age at the crossroads of rock, soul, pop, and bubblegum.
While studying at University of Michigan in 1978, Rosenbaum was one of the early performers at the now-famous Bookies Club 870, a seminal punk and new wave club. He went on to perform in Detroit and Ann Arbor in a series of original and cover bands. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles, where he played in Flip City, a fixture at Madame Wong’s West, and other ’80s clubs. From there, he and bass player (and Grammy nominated producer) Bruce Witkin (Hollywood Vampires) left to form the Lonely Bulls, a Beatle-esque vocal-centric acoustic fronted project that featured Everly Brothers-type harmonies.
Steve Rosenbaum’s Mess of Fun released their album Making Up A Mess Of Fun in 2014. The band’s rotating roster has included Bruce Witkin, as well as Scott Samuels (Roxy Monoxide, Bona Fides, Vinyl Pirates), Pete Bayard and Brendan Ruff (Super Buffet), and LA’s Rob Klonel.

In the last 12 months, the Burbank-based group the Armoires have compiled quite a travel itinerary. The band recently played the Cavern Club in Liverpool as part of the International Pop Overthrow festival (IPO) and arranged other shows during their jaunt. But for all the travel mileage and the passports stamped while overseas, the turning point for the Armoires occurred last year during the weekend of July 17-18 in La Mesa, when the band came south to participate in the resurrected International Pop Overthrow San Diego festival, returning after a three-year hiatus.
Country Rockin’ Rebels – Up from a dusty California horizon, come the Country Rockin’ Rebels. The Rebels mix old school lyrical charm with hot guitars and a solid rhythm. Starting my musical journey in the 70’s in southern California I was inspired by the music of Jackson Browne, CSN, James Taylor….the whole 70’s thing. My music has matured through the years picking up influences, open tunings and lyric writing from David Wilcox, Peter Mayer, John Gorka and others. Guitarist and Singer John January, known far and wide for his energetic performances is aGua Billboard Magazine Award Winning Songwriter and is honored as a great Blues artist in the Blues Hall Of Fame. Entertaining West Coast audiences from Mexico to Vancouver British Columbia, John has performed with notables such as Curtis Salgado, The Bayou Brothers and Sue Palmer. As the guitarist for the all-star band Little Monsters, and also Michele Lundeen and Blues Streak, John learned the specialty of putting on exciting shows. John’s virtuoso guitar and fat slide playing are a perfect complement to Linda’s expressive vocals – and vice versa.
Linda Berry, who grew up in Virginia, came from a family of musicians and was initially inspired by her father and brothers’ eclectic record collections, which contained everything from Frank Sinatra to John May. Linda’s biggest musical influences are Bonnie Raitt and a host of other blues greats of past and present: Susan Tedeschi, Beth Hart, Maria Muldaur, Etta James, Koko Taylor, to name a few. Linda cut her teeth as a band frontwoman in the San Diego area at Larry’s Beach Club with the Smokin’ Jr. band and also as a guest vocalist with numerous local blues bands. It was there at Larry’s Beach Club that Linda first met John on stage around 4 years ago. The blues being the universal language it is, they began performing together in that moment, tapping into the undeniable chemistry apparent to all.
A great performance moves freely between joy, beauty and exhilaration. January Berry shows mix electric and acoustic virtuosity, soaring vocals and close harmonies along with those steamy duets.
Jesse Nova was born in El Paso Texas. Bordering Mexico, it has a different feel than most Texas towns. Multiple cultures blend giving it a look and sound with its own unique vibe. This may be the best way to explain Jesse Nova as a musician. He started behind a drum kit, playing in various bands, before taking his now more familiar spot as lead singer.
While in San Diego, Jesse took the short trip up to Los Angeles so he could be part of Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp. Paired with Mark Hudson as his bands mentor, Jesse took full advantage of his opportunity to play with such greats as Guns and Roses drummer Matt Sorum and Bassist Duff McKagan, guitar player Paul Stanley from Kiss, Sammy Hagar from Van Halen, drummer Marky Ramone of the Ramones and Misfits, and guitarist Phil Collen of Def Leopard.

Paul is known by San Diego Uke Players as the bass player. He has been playing bass for over 20 years and has a degree from SDSU in Jazz Performance. He loves teaching and sharing the joys of music with everyone. It will be a great workshop!

Tony Blank, Zach Eischen, and Fabian Ortega have been jamming in bars all across San Diego since 2015 and have been described as everything from psychedelic blues and jam band to “please get off the stage.” They take their music very serious, but nothing else apparently.

Originally based in Nashville, Marujah’s sound is a cultural melting pot of street music and political commentary, sung in English and Spanish. Lead singer and songwiter Comandante Kalavera’s writing style is heavily influenced by Latin American existential poetry.
They emerged through the ranks of the 2014 Battle of the Bands at 710 Beach Club, as well as earning exposure on the Tim Pyles 94.9 local music showcase. Their sophomore full-length gringolandia, recorded and produced by Jake Caldwell at Holler studios in Colmont TN, was released in January 2015, preceded by the single “Ke pasa,” which deals with immigration reform and basic human rights.
Marujah Rising, released in June 2017, was produced by John Avila (Oingo Boingo) and mastered by Stephen Marsh (Los Lobos), with the help of Panteon Rococo and Nana Pancha.

He now lives in San Diego, after spending time as an apprentice draftsman for a beer brewery in St. Louis, an Internal Revenue Service employee in Springfield, MO, a retail sales representative in Denver, CO, and temporarily homeless vagabond turned baker on the beaches of Venice, CA. Ted is the founder of Puna Press and the performance group Pruitt Igoe. Pruitt Igoe was awarded a Synergy Foundation grant and performed in Harlem, New York City. Ted Washington won the BRAND 37 purchase award, with the Glendale Library acquiring one of his artworks for their permanent collection.

“I never sang a note until I was 30 and didn’t even think about a music career until my 40s,” says comedic singer-songwriter Ronald Hill, aka Happy Ron.
Beginning with open mics and tutorials found in books like How Music Really Works by Wayne Chase (“I went on a weeklong retreat with him in Canada”) and Songwriting Secrets of the Beatles, Happy Ron has racked up over 1000 performances and a San Diego Music Award nomination for Best Local Recording for his 2008 debut Terribly Happy.
Not that it all got off to a rolling head start. “It was 1997, when my original singing teacher threw us up on stage. I mumbled the Beatles’ ‘In My Life,’ and the teacher shouted, ‘Project! Project!’ I mumbled, ‘I am projecting.’ The next time, I literally shouted a sensitive love song, almost at the top of my lungs. She shook her head and said, ‘Don’t project!’”
Produced by Sven-Erik Seaholm, Terribly Happy includes his ode to spanking “All She Needs Is a Spankin,” as well as “The No Tantric Woman Blues,” “Sick of Her S**t,” and “Dickless Wonder.” Guest locals include Kelsea Little (The Wrong Trousers), Robin Henkel, and Cathryn Beeks.
Happy Ron’s original band, the Pitter Patter Brothers, consisted of Blake Dean, Eric Linquest, and Russel Linquest. Asked to describe his music, he says “I’ve always said it’s Frank Sinatra Meets South Park. Steve Poltz said it’s punk rock meets punk folk. Since he’s wiser than me, who am I to argue?”
Playing music isn’t the only thing that makes Ron Happy. In 1992, he compiled a book that was later made into a website: Cloudbusting — Kate Bush in Her Own Words. In addition, “I’m a trained boxer. It still goes back to music, though, because my song ‘Beat the Crap’ tells the true story of the weird bond you form with people when you do boxing training with them.”
In Autumn 2010, he auditioned for the upcoming season of America’s Got Talent. “I will be on the show, because they got a lot of footage of me at the front in crowd shots, next to the host as he talked. They called me up front ‘cause I looked cool, and they interviewed me.” He was seen on the May 31 season debut, lined up for auditions alongside famous former neighbor/show host Nick Cannon and a Michael Jackson impersonator.
Born without a socket in his left hip, Hill finally had hip replacement surgery in 2016. “I was amazed at how much more connected to my body I am, and how much more I’m able to focus on my music. I’m so much more centered and able to sit and concentrate better. It has totally changed my relationship with music from a struggle to a joy.”

Day began to perform in school musicals by age 8 and soon immersed herself in music, inspired to be a singer by the artists she saw on TV. “I was sixteen when that revelation came to me and I never looked back,” she said. “Being that Malta’s music scene is pretty much nonexistent, there wasn’t anywhere much to go with it.
Josie Day arrived in San Diego by chance, via family, musical aspirations in place. For Day, making music isn’t just about entertaining. “It’s been about finding a place where I belong,” she said. “Filling that hole, “the ‘what’s my purpose in life?” hole. Many people choose a career or their career chooses them. A practical job, something within reach. To me, I never had that practical job or career in mind. I have no second career that would make me just as happy. Being able to sing in a band and getting to perform every week keeps me going, keeps me alive.”
Enter the Blue Sky began in 2014 and have been evolving and pioneering their way through gig after gig, gaining momentum with no end in sight. Enter the Blue Sky is an all original Americana band. Jennifer Churchill is divorced and still mad at her ex-husband. So she makes jokes.
To pay the mortgage, the 29-year-old woman shared her East Bremerton house with a series of roommates from hell. The phone bills alone makes good comedy material.
“There’s a need for comedy with the way the world is,” says Churchill. “I’d do it even if I couldn’t make a living at it — because I need it, because it’s my character.”
Though she’s still experimenting with her comic niche, Churchill’s current joke repertoire is full of anger-tinged cracks about domestic life.
I’m a comic, based here in San Diego, and also run the Brown Laughs stand-up comedy shows here in the city. I started doing comedy sometime in the Fall of 2016 (like San Diego has a Fall, right!).
I took a stab at stand-up comedy because I’ve always been fond of and involved in some form of humor writing from an early age, but ever since college I kind of just stopped doing anything about it. I needed that creative release back in my life, and being a stand-up comedy nerd, I felt I should at least give the mic a try. I hit a few open mics, got some good advice, and got involved in the grind and tussle that it takes to be a comic.
I’m a comedian based out of San Diego, CA. I also run a monthly showcase of sharp, funny, immigrant humor.
Andrew’s love of entertainment first started in radio. After working in student radio at the University of Texas at Austin, he went on to intern at KLBJ-FM for the Dudley and Bob with Debra Morning Show. The ensuing shenanigans and stunts (from literally getting his ass kicked for charity to one ill-advised nipple piercing) eventually led him to pursue stand-up comedy in 1998.
Glutton for punishment that Andrew is, he chose to get his start at The Velveeta Room’s open mic — dubbed “The Toughest Room in America” by The New York Times. After some time in Austin, Andrew moved to San Diego. He worked for The Comedy Store in La Jolla, which gave him the opportunity to perform in Hollywood. Currently, he hosts and performs every Friday night at Winstons Beach Club. His love of performing and comedy will never die, so you’d better get used to him.
